Skills Training Center

The Shekinah Glory Skills Training Centre, located at our Children’s Home in Ward 14, Chirere, Zvishavane, was officially launched on 14 February 2022. This transformative initiative is designed to equip vulnerable young people with practical, hands-on skills that open doors to self-reliance and economic independence. The centre was developed from a dilapidated farm workshop, which was fully renovated and upgraded to include boarding facilities. With access to electricity—made possible through the installation of a transformer and backup solar system—as well as clean water from a borehole, the centre provides a safe and supportive learning environment.

Trainees are not charged any fees. Accommodation and meals are fully provided for the duration of the training, as most of the learners come from across the district and cannot commute daily. Because many of these young people cannot read or write, the centre uses a practical, demonstration-based training approach.

To date, five cohorts totaling 188 youth have graduated from our vocational program, with 66 trainees currently enrolled. Graduates receive start-up kits through donor support and pursue three pathways:

  1. Launching independent businesses
  2. Joining our alumni
  3. Securing employment with local Zvishavane employers

Many are now gainfully employed at district businesses, applying their skills in carpentry, welding, and tailoring while uplifting their communities. This initiative continues to transform lives through practical training and sustainable opportunities

We offer four-month intensive training programs in:

SEWING

At the Skills Training Centre, young people learn practical skills like sewing, helping them create school uniforms and clothing that serve both community needs and income opportunities.

CARPENTRY

Carpentry training empowers trainees to craft durable furniture and household items, opening doors to employment and entrepreneurship.

WELDING

Hands-on welding skills give young people the confidence to work in industries, start their own projects, and contribute to community development.

Our target group includes:

  • Children from Shekinah Glory Children’s Home and other homes without training facilities
  • Young people living with disabilities
  • Youth living with HIV/AIDS
  • Vulnerable young people across Zvishavane who dropped out of school or never had the chance to attend
