Children’s Home

Child Protection

Established on May 1, 2017, the Shekinah Children’s Home is the first and only registered children’s home in Zvishavane District. Located in Ward 14, Chirere, just 15km from Zvishavane town, the home was born from a vision to create a secure, nurturing environment for children in need of temporary or long-term care.

Initially a vandalized farmhouse, the property underwent extensive renovations to transform it into a safe and dignified living space. Today, the home is equipped with running water from a borehole, electricity powered by both a transformer and a solar backup system, repaired infrastructure, and a warm, family-like atmosphere.

Our Approach to Care

We provide more than just shelter. At Shekinah, each child receives:

Nutritious meals are served daily, nourishing both body and mind. We believe healthy meals are essential for healthy growth and a brighter future.

Education is key to breaking the cycle of vulnerability. We provide access to learning and mentorship, helping our children build confidence and skills for tomorrow.

Emotional and psychosocial support is at the heart of our care. Through love, counseling, and guidance, we help children heal from past trauma and look forward with hope.

We nurture not just bodies and minds but also the spirit. Guided by faith, we encourage prayer and trust in God as part of building resilience and character.

The Shekinah Children’s Home is more than a shelter; it is a family. Here, children who have faced hardship find safety, love, and a place where they can simply be children again.

Child Protection at the Core

At the heart of everything we do is a firm commitment to child protection. Shekinah Glory Organisation upholds strict child safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure that every child is safe from all forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and discrimination. All staff and volunteers undergo screening and training in child protection protocols.

We are especially mindful of the vulnerabilities of children who have experienced trauma, abandonment, or abuse. Our care approach is trauma-informed, rights-based, and rooted in love, dignity, and respect.

Our mission is to raise children who are not just survivors—but resilient, hopeful individuals equipped to thrive and contribute positively to society.
